About this site

Atafaru Thila is a submerged reef pinnacle within Ari Atoll in the Maldives, an atoll system in the central Indian Ocean known for its channel and thila diving. Sites of this kind typically rise from deeper atoll lagoon or channel waters to within a few metres of the surface, drawing divers on boat trips out of the resorts and safari vessels based around Ari Atoll. The thila reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres over a reef bottom and is rated an advanced dive. Tuna are a regular presence here, and divers have also reported bannerfish, eagle rays, fusiliers, grouper, jacks and amberjack, mackerel, manta rays, nurse sharks, scorpionfish, snapper, stingrays, sweetlips, and trevally around the pinnacle.
