About this site
Banjin Beach (番神ビーチ) is a shore-entry site at Kashiwazaki on the Niigata coast, with a maximum depth of 10 m and an average around 4 m. Inside the breakwater and rocky shore the sand is only about 3 m deep, with seahorses, common octopus, flatfish, gobies and schools of small horse mackerel at close range; further out a rocky reef zone reaches 10 m, with small cracks and tunnels to explore when conditions allow. Almost no current; suitable from beginner level. Juvenile Asian sheepshead wrasse and nudibranchs are typical, and red sea bream over a metre long, striped beakfish and schools of young yellowtail are encountered at times.
