Barra Musa Kebir lies along the Red Sea coast of Sudan, within the Al Bahr Al Ahmar (Red Sea) state, an area of reef and coastline reached mainly by liveaboard boats operating out of Port Sudan. The offshore reefs in this part of the Sudanese Red Sea are known for their remoteness compared to the more heavily dived sites farther north in Egypt.
