Bibb

The USCGC Bibb was a 327-foot Coast Guard cutter launched in the 1930s that served on North Atlantic convoy escort duty during World War II. It was deliberately sunk off Islamorada in the Florida Keys in 1987, alongside its sister ship the Duane, to form an artificial reef. The Bibb lies on its side in about 130 feet of water, with the deck starting around 90 feet, and the wreck bottom itself confirms the advanced rating given for the dive. Divers commonly encounter large pelagics such as goliath grouper and occasional turtles, along with encrusting sponges and coral growth built up on the hull over the decades. Visibility on this offshore site can be very good on calm days, and it remains a popular boat dive out of Islamorada.
