About this site

Black Rock lies off Boracay island in the Visayas region of the Philippines, named for the dark rock formation that marks the site and reached by boat from the island's dive operators. It is rated an advanced dive over a reef bottom, with a maximum depth of around 100 metres and good visibility, but strong currents are the defining feature, with divers reporting down currents and washing-machine conditions that can exceed 2 knots. Barracuda, hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and nudibranchs are found here, and divers have also reported bumphead parrotfish, lionfish, pufferfish, snapper, trevally, tuna, thresher sharks, and even whale sharks passing through. The strong current makes depth control and timing important, with the site's pull being as much a draw as its marine life.
