Blue Heron Bridge sits at Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach, Florida, beneath the bridge spanning the Lake Worth Lagoon, and is one of the best known shore muck diving sites in the country. The dive follows a sandy, seagrass-dotted bottom around the bridge pilings, topping out at about 6.6 metres, which keeps it accessible to beginners and popular for long, slow macro hunting. Frogfish, seahorses, pipefish, batfish, and octopus are regular finds here, and divers have also reported angelfish, nudibranchs, arrow crabs, stingrays, nurse sharks, and even seasonal sightings of larger animals like eagle rays and sea turtles. Tidal current through the inlet channel is the main factor to plan around, since the site is best dived on a slack high tide for visibility and calmer conditions. Boat traffic from the nearby channel and the fishing pier are worth keeping an eye on while diving. It remains a favorite for underwater photographers thanks to the sheer variety of small, unusual creatures that turn up in the sand and grass.
