About this site
Blue Heron Bridge is a shore dive in the Lake Worth Lagoon beneath the bridge of the same name in Riviera Beach, Florida, just north of Palm Beach. It is widely known among divers as one of the top muck and macro diving sites in the United States, drawing photographers for its seahorses, frogfish, batfish, pipefish, and octopuses among the rubble and pilings, and dugongs have been confirmed in the area as well. Divers have also reported angelfish, barracuda, nurse sharks, sea turtles, stingrays, eagle rays, garden eels, nudibranchs, and even manta rays, whale sharks and dolphins passing through. Depths max out around 6.6 metres, and the site is rated beginner, though it is normally dived around slack high tide since strong tidal flow through the channel makes other times difficult. Entry involves a walk across sand and rubble carrying gear, and the boat channel running through the site along with the nearby fishing pier are worth staying clear of.
