Bonito Gordo lies along the coast of Magdalena department in northern Colombia, in the stretch of Caribbean waters near Santa Marta and the Tayrona region. This part of the Colombian coast is marked by rocky headlands and small bays backed by the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and is typically accessed by boat from operators based around Santa Marta or Taganga. It is a reef site rated as a beginner dive.
