About this site
Breakwater Cove sits in Monterey, California, along the western shore of Monterey Bay, just inside the harbor breakwater. It is a well known shore diving spot for the area, with entry off the sandy beach near the Coast Guard wharf. The site is sheltered by the breakwater itself, which is part of why it draws both new divers and those training in open water skills. It is rated a beginner dive, with a maximum depth of around 5.5 metres, staying shallow throughout and making it a common choice for training and easy shore dives. Kelp and sandy patches are typical of this part of the bay.
