Canyon

The Canyon is a well-known dive site near Nuweiba on the Sinai coast of Egypt, along the Gulf of Aqaba. It is a reef site cut by a crack in the reef table that opens into a canyon-like structure descending along the wall, giving the site its name. Divers typically enter through a shallow opening in the reef before dropping through swim-throughs and openings into deeper water, with the maximum depth reported at around 25 metres and the dive rated intermediate. Because of the narrow passages and occasional current in the gulf, it suits divers with some experience rather than a first open water outing. The surrounding reef holds butterflyfish, glassfish and grouper along the entry and exit sections, and divers have also reported eagle rays, sea turtles, nudibranchs and even dolphins passing through the site.
