About this site
Grande Comore is the largest island in the Comoros archipelago, off the coast of East Africa in the Mozambique Channel, and its coastline is shaped by volcanic rock from the Karthala volcano that forms much of the island. Sites along this shore often feature lava formations and caverns cut into the basalt coast.
