About this site

Coral Garden lies in the Derawan Islands off the northeast coast of Kalimantan, Indonesia, within the Sangalaki area known for its cluster of small reef islands in the Sulawesi Sea. The site reaches a maximum depth of about 24 metres over a reef bottom, rated a beginner dive despite the strong currents that run through here, and visibility is generally great. Clownfish, garden eels, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs and mola mola turn up regularly on the reef, and divers have also reported angelfish, bannerfish, barracuda, damselfish, eagle rays, frogfish, lionfish, scorpionfish, surgeonfish, trevally, triggerfish and tuna passing through. Some divers have also noted rapid temperature drops and unpredictable current shifts at the site.
