About this site
The Cornelia B. Windiate is a wreck resting in Lake Huron off the coast of Michigan, in the northern reaches of the lake near the Michigan shoreline. She was a wooden schooner that sank in the 19th century and is notable for being found remarkably intact, with masts still standing, sitting upright on the lake bottom. Lake Huron's cold, fresh water is credited with preserving many of its shipwrecks, including this one, far better than wrecks in warmer marine waters.
