Cristobal Colon

The Cristobal Colon lies off the north coast of Bermuda, near the reef line beyond Elbow Beach and North Rock, and is one of the largest wrecks in Bermuda's waters. It was a Spanish luxury liner that ran aground in 1936, and it now lies broken across a wide area of reef and sand, its remains scattered rather than intact due to later use as a bombing target by military aircraft. Depths across the site range roughly from 9 to 17 metres, and the wreck is rated an advanced dive, largely because the size and scattered nature of the debris field demand more than one dive to cover much of it along with careful navigation across open reef and sand. Marine life on and around the structure includes typical Bermuda reef fish, and the site is popular with divers looking for a wreck with real historical scale rather than an intact hull.
