About this site
The RFA Darkdale was a British Royal Fleet Auxiliary tanker sunk by a German U-boat torpedo attack in October 1941 while anchored in James Bay off Jamestown, Saint Helena. Verified surveys place the wreck at a maximum depth of around 43 metres, and it is rated a technical dive. The hull is largely intact for a wartime loss, and the site remains one of the few named wreck dives associated with Saint Helena's isolated Atlantic waters. Given the depth, dive time on the wreck is limited, and it is typically visited by dedicated technical diving operations rather than as a casual excursion.
