About this site
The Davock is a steel freighter that sank in Lake Michigan during the Armistice Day Storm of November 1940, one of two vessels lost that day along with the Novadoc off the Michigan coast near Pentwater. The wreck lies broken on the lake bed some miles offshore, in cold, dark water that puts it beyond recreational depths for most divers and typically requires technical training and equipment to visit safely. Visibility and temperature in this part of the lake vary with season, and the site is reached by boat out of the Pentwater or Ludington area. Given the depth and the coldwater conditions of open Lake Michigan, it is considered a dive for experienced technical divers rather than a casual outing.
