About this site
The Novadoc was a Canadian steel canaller that ran aground during the Armistice Day Storm in November 1940 off the Michigan coast near Pentwater, in this stretch of Lake Michigan. The ship broke apart on the shoal where it grounded, and the remains that settled to the bottom now lie in shallow water not far from shore. Because of the shallow depth, the site is accessible to a range of divers, though the wreckage is scattered and broken up rather than an intact hull. Visibility and water temperature in this part of Lake Michigan vary with the season, and the site is typically reached by boat from the Ludington or Pentwater area.
