About this site
Rote sits at the southern edge of the Lesser Sunda chain, southwest of Timor, and Landu is on the eastern side of the island facing the Timor Sea. Drop Off is a wall site along this coastline where fringing reef gives quickly way to deeper water, reaching a maximum depth of around 40 metres and rated an advanced dive. Entry can involve surge over slippery cobblestones, and the wall's steep profile means divers need to watch their depth carefully to avoid going deeper than planned. Divers here have reported fusiliers, snapper, leaf scorpionfish, and even mola mola out over the drop-off. Boat access to sites along this stretch is typically arranged from the small coastal settlements nearby.
