El Cagilon lies in the Caribbean Sea off the northern coast of Cuba, in the waters near the Colorados archipelago and San Antonio bank on the western end of the island. This stretch of coastline is characterized by extensive reef and shoal systems reached by small boat from nearby coastal settlements.
