Erg Somaya lies off Qesm Hurghada along Egypt's Red Sea coast, in the Red Sea Governorate, and is typically reached by boat from Hurghada's marinas. This reef site reaches a maximum depth of around 35 metres and is rated an advanced dive due to strong current, with weather exposure adding to the challenge. Barracuda, snapper, and tuna are common here, and divers have also reported anthias, batfish, butterflyfish, glassfish, jacks and amberjack, mackerel, Napoleon wrasse, parrotfish, and triggerfish around the reef.
