About this site
Fan 38 East is a steep-slope and wall dive site whose name comes from the sheer number of fan corals covering the reef — photographers have long noted there are simply too many to capture in a single frame. The terrain is characterised by wild, varied topography running from 3 m down to 60 m, combining slopes, walls, overhangs, canyons, and small caverns in constant succession.
The reef structure shifts continuously as depth increases, offering macro subjects in the more sheltered sections and larger animals in areas exposed to current. Schools of fish gather and feed in the current, making the site productive for both wide-angle and close-up photography. Conditions are current-dependent throughout, and the site is rated intermediate.
