About this site
Fish Rock Cave sits off South West Rocks on the mid north coast of New South Wales, at Fish Rock Island near the Smoky Cape headland. It is one of the better known cave and cavern dives on the Australian east coast, a sea tunnel running through the island that divers swim through from one side to the other. The site is also known for grey nurse shark aggregations that gather in and around the cave, along with other reef fish along the surrounding rock structure. Depths run to around 20 to 26 metres inside the cave system, and the swim-through, combined with surge and the need for good buoyancy control in an overhead environment, means it is generally treated as a dive for those with some experience rather than newcomers.
