About this site
Fontao is a wreck site off Durban, on South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal coast facing the Indian Ocean, typically reached by boat from launch points around the city's harbour and beachfront. It sits on a wreck bottom at a maximum depth of around 27 metres and is rated an intermediate dive. Restricted visibility is a known hazard here, and divers have also reported sections offering wreck penetration along with tighter, restricted passages inside the hull. Leaf scorpionfish have been spotted on the wreck as well.
