About this site
Fort Foster sits at Kittery Point, Maine, on a peninsula overlooking the mouth of the Piscataqua River where it meets the Atlantic near the New Hampshire border. The former coastal defense site, now a town park, sits close to Gerrish Island and looks across toward Fort Constitution on the New Hampshire side. The dive here is a beginner site reaching a maximum depth of about 7.6 metres, making it a shallow, easy entry along this stretch of coast. Divers have also reported garden eels at the site, though that sighting is less typical for the cold waters of the Gulf of Maine.
