About this site
This ocean-going freighter was built in 1922 as Arcadia and went through many other names until it became, in 1959, the Francisco Morazan. It was lost in a snowstorm on November 29, 1960 when the she ran aground on rocks off the south end of South Manitou Island. The broken hull now rests in very shallow water a few hundred yards from the shore. She is partially filled with sand, and remains of the hull protrude above water, visible from the mainland. Lies in about 6.1 m; sank 1960.
