Giant Wrasses Shelf lies along Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Archipelago of French Polynesia, an atoll with one of the largest lagoons in the world, where the passes at Avatoru and Tiputa are known for strong tidal exchange between lagoon and ocean. Sites along this stretch are typically reached by boat from either village. Divers here have reported blacktip reef sharks and grey reef sharks, along with Hawaiian convict surgeonfish, striped surgeonfish, whitecheek surgeonfish, longfin bannerfish, Pacific double-saddle butterflyfish, and small giant clams.
