About this site
Gonzalo's Reef lies off Akumal on the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo, part of the reef system running along the Yucatan Peninsula near the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Akumal itself is a small bay town between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, serving as a launch point for boat dives out to the surrounding reef sites. This site reaches a maximum depth of about 24.4 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have also reported sea turtles here.
