About this site
La Tortuga lies along the Akumal coastline on the Caribbean side of Quintana Roo, part of the reef and bay system that runs along this stretch of the Yucatan Peninsula, and is typically reached by short boat trips from the town's beaches or from nearby Tulum. It sits over a reef bottom with a maximum depth of about 17.3 metres, light current, and is rated a beginner dive. Sea turtles and snapper are regular sightings here, and divers have also reported angelfish, barracuda, bull sharks, grouper, moray eels, octopus, parrotfish, and stingrays on the reef.
