About this site
Gordo Banks is a submerged seamount in the Gulf of California off San Jose del Cabo, near the southern tip of the Baja California Sur peninsula, reached by boat from marinas along the Los Cabos coastline. The pinnacle bottoms out around 40 metres and is rated an advanced dive due to strong currents and good but often blue-water visibility with no fixed reference line. Divers regularly encounter hammerhead sharks, jacks and amberjacks, mackerel, manta rays, mobula rays, snapper, tuna, whales, and whale sharks around the seamount. Dolphins, orcas, reef sharks, sea turtles, and stingrays have also been reported here. Given the drift conditions, depth, and lack of a bottom reference, it is considered an unpredictable site best suited to experienced divers comfortable with blue water diving.
