About this site
Cabo Pulmo sits on the southeastern coast of the Baja California Sur peninsula, along the Sea of Cortez near the East Cape. It is built around one of the few living hard coral reefs in the Gulf of California, a rocky reef system protected within Cabo Pulmo National Park. Decades of no-take protection here have allowed fish populations to rebuild substantially, and the reef holds bull sharks, grouper, jacks and amberjack, snapper, and sea turtles. Divers have also reported eagle rays, manta rays, mobulas, moray eels, pufferfish, reef sharks, stingrays, and even whales passing through. This particular site reaches a maximum depth of around 30.5 metres over a reef bottom and is rated a beginner dive, though conditions elsewhere in the park vary by site and season, with some areas better suited to more experienced divers.
