Gran Susto is a wall dive off the Guanacaste coast of northwestern Costa Rica, in the Pacific waters near the Papagayo peninsula and Catalina Islands area, reached by boat from operators running trips out of the Gulf of Papagayo and towns like Playas del Coco. It reaches a maximum depth of around 39.6 metres and is rated an advanced dive due to strong current, with visibility reported as great. Bull sharks are a regular presence on the wall, and divers have also reported manta rays passing through. Strong currents and surge have been noted as hazards here, so timing with the right conditions matters more than at many nearby sites.
