About this site
São Jorge is one of the central islands of the Azores archipelago, a long narrow island of volcanic origin rising steeply from the Atlantic. Gruta Dos Corais lies along its coastline, where the island's basalt cliffs and lava formations continue underwater as a wall reaching down to around 25 metres. It is rated an advanced dive, and divers have reported grouper, mackerel, and nudibranchs along the formation.
