About this site
Hairball lies in the Lembeh Strait off the north coast of Sulawesi, a stretch of water long associated with muck diving on dark volcanic sand between the mainland and Lembeh Island. Sites in this strait are typically reached by short boat rides from dive resorts along the Lembeh shoreline in Bitung, North Sulawesi. The site sits over a sand bottom and is rated a beginner dive, with hairy frogfish and mimic octopus regularly found here. Divers have also reported flying gurnards, other frogfish, fusiliers, octopus, parrotfish, pipefish, scorpionfish, snapper, and unicornfish across the site.
