Hirokawa Maru / Bonegi I

Bonegi I refers to a Japanese transport wreck lying just off the Bonegi River area on the north coast of Guadalcanal, west of Honiara in the Solomon Islands. This stretch of coastline was part of the World War Two Guadalcanal campaign, and several Japanese vessels beached or were sunk here during the fighting in late 1942. The wreck is accessed directly from the black sand shore, making it a popular shore dive for those visiting Honiara. Exact condition and depths vary along its length as the hull has broken up over the decades, with shallower sections closer to the surf zone and deeper sections extending further out.
