About this site
HMAS Warrnambool lies off the coast of Queensland, at coordinates placing it well north in the Coral Sea approaches near the Great Barrier Reef, offshore from Cape York. HMAS Warrnambool was an Australian Bathurst-class corvette that struck a mine and sank in 1947 while conducting minesweeping operations in the area. The wreck rests at depth in these remote waters off far north Queensland, a long way from the more commonly visited dive hubs further south.
