About this site
The HMCS Yukon is a former Canadian Mackenzie-class destroyer scuttled off Mission Beach near San Diego, California in 2000 to create an artificial reef. It rolled onto its side during the sinking rather than settling upright as planned, and it now rests on its port side over a wreck bottom, with a maximum depth of about 30.5 metres and the shallower superstructure reachable higher up. Its 111 metre hull is largely intact, which makes it popular for wreck penetration among trained divers, and it carries a covering of anemones and other invertebrates along with rockfish and schooling baitfish typical of the Southern California coast. The site is rated an advanced dive, in keeping with the depth, cold water, and the disorientation that comes from a hull lying on its side.
