About this site
HMS Maori was a British Tribal-class destroyer sunk by German bombers in Grand Harbour in 1942. Its wreck lies broken up in shallow water near Kalkara, at a maximum depth of around 16 metres, and is rated a beginner dive over a scattered wreck bottom. The scattered remains give divers a chance to find flying gurnard, octopus, scorpionfish, seahorses, and stingrays, while cuttlefish, moray eels, nudibranchs, and sea turtles have also been spotted here. Visibility in this part of the harbour can be affected by boat traffic and silt given the proximity to the harbour mouth.
