About this site
HMS Scylla lies off Whitsand Bay near Plymouth on the south coast of Cornwall, England. It was a Leander class frigate deliberately sunk in 2004 to create an artificial reef, one of the first such naval scuttlings in UK waters. The wreck sits in a maximum depth of around 18 metres and is considered a beginner-level dive, making it accessible to divers early in their training. Its popularity means the wreck can get crowded during peak season, with other divers around and inside the hull at busy times, and divers have also reported silt building up inside the structure, so care with buoyancy in the enclosed spaces is worth keeping in mind.
