About this site
HMS Svenner was a Norwegian-crewed destroyer serving with the Royal Navy, sunk by a German torpedo boat attack off Sword Beach during the D-Day landings in June 1944. It now lies broken on the seabed off the Calvados coast in the Baie de Seine, in waters accessible from Normandy's Channel shore. The wreck attracts divers interested in Second World War history, given its direct connection to the Normandy landings rather than for reef life or visibility. Depths in this part of the Baie de Seine are moderate, but currents and shipping traffic in the area mean the site is generally treated as one for experienced divers.
