About this site

Hol Chan Marine Reserve sits off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye in the Belize District, a short boat ride from San Pedro, within the greater Belize Barrier Reef system. Diving here reaches a maximum depth of around 9.1 metres over a reef bottom, making it a beginner-friendly site, though tidal currents through the cut can run strong at times. Nurse sharks and stingrays are confirmed regulars in the area, and divers have also reported barracuda, eagle rays, garden eels, grouper, lobster, nudibranchs, octopus, sea turtles, snapper, and squid around the site. The reserve's cut and channel formation draws large numbers of divers and snorkelers given the shallow, easy conditions.
