About this site
Built as a 3-masted ship, this vessel was later converted to a sidewheel steamer, with 1 mast and a low-pressure engine. In 1846 she battled a gale for 16 days, running out of fuel and burning cargo of furniture, grain, and parts of her cabins to maintain steam before reaching Copper Harbor. She was seized by the Canadian government in 1848 for violating revenue laws. She was sold back to American interests and sunk off Carp River (now Pendill's Creek) for use as a dock for the Carp River Mill Company. This site is accessible from shore, and makes for a great snorkel, kayak, or dive site. Lies in about 3 m; sank 1848.
