About this site
Kijaka (キジャカ) is a reef site representative of the Yabiji reef complex off Miyako Island, Okinawa, with varied corals growing from the surface down to about 15 m. Coral-dwelling species include Meyer's angelfish and the spotted butterflyfish, rare in Japan. In winter broadclub cuttlefish mate here, and from spring to summer they lay eggs in finger coral and the hatch can be watched.
