About this site
Koh Bida Nok is the outer and taller of the two Bida islets south of Koh Phi Phi Leh, a jagged limestone tower whose walls and pinnacles carry more relief than its quieter neighbour. Hard and soft coral cover the rock, and a series of ledges and small pinnacles step down into deeper water off its southern end. It is best known for its sharks and turtles. Leopard sharks rest on the sand around the base, blacktip reef sharks patrol the shallows, and hawksbill turtles are a common sight, while harlequin shrimp and seahorses reward divers who slow down and search the reef. Passing whale sharks are recorded here occasionally. Visibility is often very good and current is usually manageable, though the more exposed outer wall can pick up movement. Dived year round from Phi Phi and Phuket, Koh Bida Nok suits a wide range of divers and is one of the signature sites of the Phi Phi area.
