La Cathedrale lies off the west coast of Mauritius, near Flic en Flac, in the Indian Ocean. The site is known for its cavern-like swim-throughs formed by overlapping rock and coral archways, which give the site its name and create a cathedral-like play of light for divers passing beneath them. It draws divers looking for swim-through topography rather than open reef, with the archways and overhangs forming the main draw of the dive.
