Lake Jocassee

Lake Jocassee is a deep reservoir in the Blue Ridge foothills of northwestern South Carolina, formed by a Duke Energy dam that flooded the Whitewater, Toxaway, and Horsepasture river valleys in the early 1970s. Devil's Fork State Park, on the lake's southeastern shore, is the main public access point for divers and boaters. The lake is known regionally for its clear, cold water and steep underwater terrain dropping into old river channels, including submerged foundations and trees left from the flooded valleys. Diving here reaches around 18.3 metres and is rated advanced, reflecting the cold temperatures and depth of the old channel drop-offs.
