Laughing Bird Caye National Park

Laughing Bird Caye National Park is a marine park located along the southern Belize Barrier Reef, built around a "faroe" — a small atoll shaped like a lighthouse rising from the middle of the reef. The park lies within reach of Placencia, with a boat ride of 30 minutes to one hour. Patch reefs, faroes, and small coral islands extend south of the caye, and tiny mangrove-lined coves add further diving options within the park.

The reef terrain is defined by large stands of Staghorn and Elkhorn coral, with gaps, tunnels, and pass-throughs running through the coral structure. Mangrove areas offer sheltered, life-rich diving alongside the open reef. The site suits beginner to intermediate divers.

The coral gaps and tunnels hold large schools of fish, anemones, and sponges, while the mangrove coves support a dense concentration of marine life. A divemaster leads groups through the site, pointing out notable features and animals along the way. Dives are conducted by boat, with the site and dive style typically chosen based on group interest and the day's weather and conditions.
