Long Point is a rocky reef on Catalina Island, in a good anchorage, so watch for boaters who know nothing about divers. Depths run from 20 to 80 feet (6 to 24 metres).
The protected area is rocks along the island leading gently down to a sandy bottom. Further out toward the point the rock gets steeper, with large crevices and ledges, and the reef drops into deeper blue water. The current can get strong along the outer edge, which makes it a dive for confident, advanced divers.
You can see schooling fish, calico, rockfish, moray eels, anemones, nudibranchs, and maybe halibut in the sand. Kelp grows here, and there is lots of invertebrate life on the rocks.
