About this site
Looe Key Reef lies in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary off Ramrod Key, near the Lower Keys of Florida, and takes its name from HMS Looe, a British frigate that ran aground on the reef in 1744. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 15 metres and is considered a beginner-friendly dive, making it accessible to divers of most experience levels. The area is a spur-and-groove coral reef formation typical of the Keys tract, sitting a few miles offshore in the Straits of Florida.
