About this site
The M Stalker was two-masted schooner that normally carried iron ore. She was named for her first Captain, Malcomb Stalker (not Martin). In November 1886 she was at anchor off Mackinaw City, riding out a gale, when she was struck by a schooner barge towed by a passing steamer. She released her anchor and attempted to make sail, but were forced to take to their boats as she sank. The hull lies in 80-100 ft of water, with the transom off, but masts and spars lie alongside. Her headgear was damaged in the original collision, but the deck has several easy penetrations for divers. Lies in about 28 m; sank 1886.
