Maha Thila

Maha Thila is a submerged pinnacle in North Male Atoll, one of the well-known thila dives in this part of the Maldives. Thilas are isolated reef formations rising from deeper water without breaking the surface, and Maha Thila is known for strong currents that attract grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and large schools of fusiliers and snappers along its overhangs and caves. Depths typically range from around 8 metres on the shallower plateau down past 30 metres near the base. Because the current can be quite strong and often unpredictable, this site is generally considered suited to experienced divers comfortable with drift conditions. Visibility is usually good, letting divers appreciate the pinnacle's soft coral cover and the pelagic activity that patrols its edges. Divers have also reported nudibranchs tucked among the coral, and stonefish have been spotted on the reef as well, worth watching for given their sting.
