About this site
Manta Reef lies off the Tofo and Barra area of Inhambane Province on Mozambique's southern coast, a stretch known for its offshore reef systems facing the Indian Ocean. Boats typically reach these sites from the beach launches around Tofo and Barra. The reef bottom here reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Manta rays are a regular sighting, giving the site its name, and divers have also reported batfish, grouper, nudibranchs, snapper, trevally, and even whales passing through.
